This is useful to know because searching for “Porto airport” can occasionally produce something involving Porto Santo, an island several hundred kilometres away.

Is Porto Airport far from the city?
No.
The airport sits north of central Porto and is directly connected to the city by metro.
Line E takes roughly 30 minutes to reach central stations such as Trindade and Bolhão.
This is one of the things Porto gets very right.
You do not land somewhere that still requires a one hour train journey before the city vaguely appears in the distance.
How do you get from OPO to Porto?
The easiest option is Metro Line E.
Services currently run every 20 to 30 minutes depending on time and day.
Taxis, buses, shuttles and car hire are also available.
For most first time visitors staying in central Porto, I would take the metro unless arriving after it stops running.
What airlines fly to Porto?
Porto has developed into a major international airport with direct flights across Europe and an increasing number of longer haul routes.
ANA reported more than 16.9 million passengers in 2025 and over 130 direct destinations for the 2026 summer season.
Rather than list airlines here, which becomes outdated almost immediately, search OPO from your departure airport.

What is Porto Airport like?
It is a relatively easy airport to navigate compared with much larger European hubs.
Arrivals and departures information, check in details and gate information are available through the official airport site and ANA app.
There are restaurants, cafés, shops, duty free facilities and car rental desks.
You will not need a survival kit because you arrived three hours early.
Although naturally the one restaurant you want will still be at the opposite end of wherever you happen to be sitting.

Is there a lounge at Porto Airport?
Yes.
The ANA Lounge is after security on Floor 3.
Its current published hours are 04:00 to 21:00, with a maximum stay of three hours.
Access depends on your airline status, lounge programme or paid booking.
Check eligibility before turning up and looking hopeful.
Are there luggage lockers?
Yes.
This is particularly useful if you have a long connection or several hours between hotel checkout and your flight.
Porto Airport currently has 104 lockers on Floor minus 1 in the underground access tunnel. They operate 24 hours a day.
Different locker sizes are available and pricing depends on size and storage duration.
The maximum normal locker period is 72 hours under the current rules.
Is there a pharmacy?
Yes.
The airport currently lists a pharmacy before security on Floor 3, alongside 24 hour first aid services.
Useful if you suddenly remember the medication sitting peacefully on your bathroom shelf at home.
Less useful once boarding has started.
How early should you arrive?
Follow your airline's recommendation, particularly for checked luggage and non Schengen flights.
For a standard European departure, I would normally rather be slightly early than spend my final hour in Porto sprinting past duty free.
Long haul and non Schengen flights can require additional border procedures.
The airport itself advises passengers to allow for check in, baggage and security requirements appropriate to their flight.
Can you sleep near Porto Airport?
Yes.
There are airport hotels within walking distance or a very short transfer of the terminal.
This can make sense for very early departures.
If your flight leaves at 06:00, staying in Ribeira because the hotel has a nice balcony becomes considerably less charming around 03:30.
For normal daytime flights, I would stay in Porto and simply take the metro or taxi.

Do not rent a car purely to reach Porto.
Use the metro if it is running.
Keep OPO in mind when booking flights.
And check your departure gate rather than assuming the airport is so small that walking takes thirty seconds.
