01
The short answer
Three days is a useful first-trip baseline: two days for Porto and Gaia, plus one flexible day for the Douro Valley or the Atlantic coast. Two days works for a focused city break; four gives the city more breathing room.
02
Two days in Porto
Use one day for Baixa, Sé and Ribeira, then cross to Gaia. Spend the second around Bolhão, Clérigos and Cedofeita, with a viewpoint or river cruise later.
03
Three or four days
A third day creates room for a Douro Valley tour. With a fourth, visit Foz and Matosinhos or explore neighbourhoods beyond the core without treating every hill as a schedule problem.
