Casa da Música Porto: Tours, Concerts and Tickets

Choose between a Casa da Música building tour and a concert, with practical advice on tickets, Boavista access and visitor facilities.

Angular concrete exterior of Casa da Música in Porto

Casa da Música is best visited with a purpose: either take a building tour to understand its architecture or attend a concert for the music. Its unusual exterior is free to see, but a photograph from the square does not reveal the interior spaces.

It stands in Boavista, away from the tight cluster of Ribeira and Sé. Check the current tour or performance schedule before making the trip, and decide whether the building itself or a particular programme is your main reason to go.

Casa da Música at a glance

The venue offers guided and open building tours as well as a varied concert programme. Its published 2026 schedule lists regular guided visits of around 50 minutes, but dates, languages, admission and performance times can vary. Use the official calendar for a specific day. See Casa da Música official tour calendar.

Why visit the building?

Casa da Música’s angular form and unusual internal room layout make it unlike Porto’s historic church and palace interiors. The building was designed by Rem Koolhaas’s OMA and is an important stop for visitors interested in contemporary architecture as well as music.

A tour gives context for how the auditorium and other spaces work. The rooms available can change around rehearsals and performances, so do not assume every tour includes the same backstage areas. Ask the venue what its current route covers if one room matters to you. See Casa da Música official tour formats.

Should you take a tour or attend a concert?

Choose a tour if the building is your main interest and you want a guided explanation in daylight. Choose a concert if a programme genuinely appeals to you; seeing the main hall in use is a different experience, but you will not necessarily see the wider building.

Doing both makes sense for a dedicated architecture or music day, not automatically for a short Porto stay. If you only have 20 minutes, the exterior and square can be seen without buying a ticket, provided you are comfortable with the journey to Boavista. See Current Casa da Música performance programme.

How do Casa da Música tickets work?

Tour tickets and concert tickets are separate products. Check the language, start time and route of a tour; for a concert, check the programme, seat location, door time and any age guidance. A generic attraction pass may not include the performance you have in mind.

The venue says concert doors usually open about 30 minutes before the event. Leave time to reach the correct entrance, especially if you are travelling from the historic centre during a busy evening. See Casa da Música official visit planning and tickets.

How do you get to Casa da Música?

The venue is on Avenida da Boavista near Rotunda da Boavista, not within the Ribeira walking loop. Casa da Música metro station makes it a straightforward public-transport stop; check your route and ticket zones before leaving, particularly if your day has otherwise been on foot.

If you plan a concert after dinner, account for the journey back as well as the outward trip. A late finish can make a taxi or ride-hail more convenient than trying to connect several lines. See Porto metro map and Boavista connections and How to pay for Porto public transport.

Is Casa da Música accessible?

The venue describes ramps and lifts, but the right arrival point and seating arrangement depend on the event and mobility need. Contact the venue before booking if you require wheelchair seating, step-free access to a particular tour space or assistance with hearing or vision.

Access to one public area does not mean every backstage room on a building tour is identical. Ask about the exact tour route rather than relying only on general building-access information. See Casa da Música official accessibility and visit information.

Is Casa da Música worth the trip?

Yes if you are interested in contemporary architecture or have found a concert you want to hear. It is less useful as an obligatory photo stop when you have limited time in Porto’s historic centre. The distance to Boavista is the real trade-off.

Choose the tour or event first, then build the journey around its time. For a broader museum-and-architecture day, compare nearby cultural stops before committing your whole afternoon. See Porto’s museums and cultural attractions and Browse Porto attractions.
