GA Palace gives you gardens, pools and spa facilities within a walk of São Bento and the upper centre. It suits a New Year break where you want time at the hotel as well as an evening out. The route to Aliados is longer than from Praça da Liberdade.
Best for · a historic Rua das Flores base
PortoBay Flores sits between São Bento and Ribeira on a pedestrian street, useful if dinner is in the old centre and you want a short walk back. Its palace and newer wing offer distinct room settings. Ask about the drop-off point, room wing and access during crowd controls.

The Mercure is just off Aliados, close to the metro and restaurant streets around Bolhão. It is a sensible choice when location matters more than a river view or a destination hotel dinner. Aliados and Baixa are most practical for the traditional city-centre countdown. Rua das Flores and Batalha remain walkable but add slopes or pedestrian access.
